And now for something completely different – a movie recommendation.

On the fabulous blog named Roz Wound Up – I learned of a documentary about a self-taught 74 year old woman painter in London. Made by her son, the film chronicles Mary’s entry for the Royal Academy of Art summer show in 2003  – I ordered the DVD (ships from the US – ordered on thursday and arrived on Saturday) Just watched it twice – I was totally charmed and inspired by Mary’s energy and commitment.

The title is The Royal Academy – One woman’s determination to get accepted into the world’s most prestigious art institution.   The film is about  Mary Cane-Honeysett. If not available at your local library – you can buy it.  Nope, I get no comission – I just really enjoyed her story, the insight into the jurying process at the Royal Academy and her son’s film.
